Nearly 3,000 people were killed on 9/11/01, 400 were law enforcement officers and firefighters. Most who know me today may not be able to imagine me 24 to 26 years ago. I was a Sedgwick County Sheriff's officer in Wichita, KS. While I was in training Deputy Kevin Easter was shot and killed by a kid who ran from a traffic stop and wrestled Deputy Easter on the ground getting his gun. That was Jan. 8th, 1996. Soon after receiving my badge my training sergeant Ken Snider was killed during a domestic disturbance call. That was Apr. 18th, 1997. I think of both of those men often and how their deaths influenced my career path away from law enforcement. While working on the flag today I remember those fallen officers and think about the families of the lost on 9/11/01. My flags may look like a woodworking project, but to me, they have more meaning.
